A photo of a small farm/chacra +/- 11,500 feet in the Andes close to our camp near Huambo Peru circa 1978
La Veronica partway between Machu Picchu and Cusco. Altitude 19,226 feet. Called by the Quechua name Wakay Willka or Sacred Tears. This photo was taken on the way back from Machu Picchu in 2004.
A look from an old ruins near Huambo in 1978. We climbed this one Saturday to see the ruins of an old Quechua village. Our work camp is in the background. top centre beside our airstrip. Altitude about 12,000 feet for this photo
A picture in 1978 of the Colca Valley. The river shown is the Colca River and was the one that we diverted onto the desert at a place called Majes. At this point we were on an outlook at Cabanaconde or Where the Condors Soar, looking south into the valley. You can see the terracing along the sides of the canyon going all the way down to the river.
Deysi’s hometown Arequipa, today about 2,000,000 people. The volcano in the background is called Misti and has an elevation of about 18,000 feet. The family home is just outside of the range of this photo on the middle right about half a block from that building shown in the photo. This taken during a visit home in 2007
A milk delivery in a typical Andean Village. This one in Pampacolca, the birthplace of Deysi’s father 100 plus years ago. We visited here looking for family roots. Sure enough there were still some relatives living in the area. Photo taken in 2015 during visit to ancestral home town.
Our favourite beach. This at Mollendo about 80 km west of Arequipa, Peru across the Atacama Desert. We started visiting this little beach in 1978 and it remains unchanged even to our last visit there in recent years. Picture from 1979.
