OK THE FUN IS OVER, BACK HOME AND WHERE TO NEXT
Well we have now had our break between assignments, spent our money, seen everyone in Peru and now its time to go to work. We spend the next 3-4 months in Edmonton, and after waiting for the new assignment to come to fruition and obtaining the approvals required to get into the next country, everything comes into place and all of the sudden, Panic! “When can you get here”, “we need you tomorrow”, “are you at the airport yet”, and my life returns to normal.
I leave for San Fransisco, our company’s home office location, and as usual leave Deysi and our girl holding the bag. I really mean packing the bags. This is her lot in life, I run around like a blue ass fly, dropping little piles of crap everywhere and then leave Deysi to clean it up, put order in it and join me as fast as she can. Also a big event in these times was the approval of our new brother-in-law as a full fledged member of the Aranibar clan and an honorary Peruvian.
We are off on a new adventure and a new phase to our life. This time our travels take us to San Fransisco. Thus far in my career I have had, only great assignments such as Peru, Japan, San Fran with stopover’s in Canada. So far I had not had the pleasure of Iraq, Iran, Nigeria or Afghanistan. “Just wait” you say, “your luck is bound to run out”. Anyway fresh from a vacation and pumped for a new adventure we headed to California for the next couple of years. What fun we had and what great times. We did not know it them but during this phase of our life we added a new addition to the family! Also our daughter started school here.
Now let the fun begin. I will spend the next two or three days reminiscing about our first time in the USA. This trip started a lifelong love for us of the States and all things American (except maybe the media and politics).
This one last thing I leave you with today is a very profound bumper sticker I read during one of my first few days driving into San Fransisco across the Bay Bridge. I pulled up behind a rather beat up old car, and there in glorious letters was the all enlightening statement, MY OTHER CAR IS UP MY NOSE. With that welcome to the USA.
