TUNNELLING IN THE ANDES, EARLY 1970’s A PHOTO BY DEYSI’s LITTLE BROTHER

Hello JimboRed
I tried to find my comment about Majes-Macon. I was not able to find it
Anyways, here is picture. By hand, no GPS, no Laser
A tunnel by hand, With my uncle Berrios and cousin Jose Aranibar (Bertoledo)
My apologies again, worth the effort
Ica – Peru

Great picture brother. It reminds me of my days in Peru. The company Bertolero, had their tunnels at the end of the project, just where the tunnels and canals turned onto the desert for the final push. We could see their worksites, off in the distance across the mountains. I never met your cousin or uncle, but wish I had. These guys were real tunnellers! Thank you so much.

    Wow!
    What a nice old picture.
Those were hard working people. Not a lot of protected equipment, they were given a can of evaporate milk at the end of the day to counteract the fumes they breathed all day. Most of them save the milk for their children at home. So proud of my people! 🇵🇪

I agree, these were hard men and women. I recall once in a while getting our camp and the Bertolero guys together for a game of fulbito. And of course a few piscos!

My uncle Berrios was a pionnner with my cousin Jose Aranibar
Son of my dad’s oldest brother

    As you properly mention,
They worked with Bertaledo a Spanish Company back in the early 70s
Way back before you come to Arequipa

JimboRed replies; Yes John, when these guys were well into digging tunnels, I was still in Northern Canada learning the construction business
